You can wear a KN-95 mask while emptying the contents into the trash (and do it when you’re outside so you don’t re-suspend dust back into your home.)

Robot Vacuum + Mop

If you’re busy, or detest vacuuming and mopping, a robot vacuum-mop combo is ideal, because it takes care of daily dust for you. No robot vacuum is yet perfect, but Eufy’s consistently perform well in third party performance testing. They have allergy care certification, which is impressive, meaning the dust bags will not release their contents into the air. This is important not only for allergy sufferers, but for general exposure reduction to everything toxic in dust. Some come with self-cleaning stations, and there are a wide range of price points, which is appreciated.

Cordless Vacuum + Steam Mop

Eufy’s Mach V1 Ultra is the internet’s favorite vacuum-steam mop combo, and it’s mine too, for a few health-focused reasons. Its low profile body lets you mop or vacuum under the bed or couch, where accumulated dust is most often neglected. And, since it’s all-in-one, it makes it much more likely you’ll actually remove dust regularly, instead of having to haul out both a vacuum and a mop. Importantly, aqueous ozone is recognized as safe by the FDA (as opposed to ozone in the air, which is not safe to breathe in), reducing your reliance on toxic cleaning products.

OEKO TEX Certified Microfiber Dry Mop Pad

This is the only non toxic microfiber dry mop pad with OEKO TEX certification, made by Norwex. Which is great, because the last thing you want when you’re cleaning is to use a cloth made with suspect chemicals. Microfiber is made of polyester and polyamide, two plastic-based fabrics, but because it clings to dust so well when it’s dry, it’s still a good option when its OEKO TEX certified.

OEKO TEX Certified Microfiber Wet Mop Pad

This is the only non toxic microfiber reusable wet mop pad with OEKO TEX certification, made by Norwex. Which is great, because the last thing you want when you’re cleaning is to use a cloth made with suspect chemicals. This is reusable, and you can use simply water or non toxic cleaning liquids with it, making it a non toxic alternative to Swiffer Wet Jet. It does contain microsilver as an antimicrobial agent, but because it is neither chemical-based nor nano-sized, it is thankfully a safe option.

Spray Mop

There are so many highly rated spray mops with nearly identical features, I linked to all of them here, because if you don’t go with a steam mop, these affordable spray mops are incredibly useful for picking up floor dust. You don’t need to add any special solution to the chamber unless you’re doing a deep clean; just simple tap water will do for dust removal. Can also be used for dry floor dusting with a microfiber cloth. Any of these make a great non toxic Swiffer alternative.
