Why do some sheets make you sweaty?

Organic, natural, and non-toxic sheets I recommend all listed here.

Oh, sorry- didn’t see you there! I’m always reading really important literature, and you caught me this time!

Anyway, let’s talk about these sheets -- to understand why some make you sweaty, and others don’t, a microscope really helps.

This is what linen fibers look like— they keep you warm because they’re pretty dense. But, they have a hollow core that draws moisture and excess heat away from your body and into dryer air on the other side of your sheets.

Wool’s coarse structure makes tiny air pockets that hold warmth. And like linen, it’s very breathable. Plus, wool absorbs water into the inside of its fibers, and you never feel it, because the outer part of the fibers are water-repellant.

Cotton looks exactly like casarecce noodles — and like pasta, it absorbs a lot of water, and doesn’t let it go. Cotton sheets can feel really cool, depending on how they’re woven, but if you sweat at all, they stay wet.

Tencel comes from the woody part of eucalyptus trees and is processed into smooth fibers. They’re considered semi-synthetic, but are very good at both absorbing and releasing water— and they’re super breathable!

The smoothest fiber of them all is polyester, which is actually a form of plastic. It can’t absorb any water whatsoever, so if you sweat under a polyester sheet, it stays trapped until it can find another way out.
