I have a huge following on TikTok, so after another long day of being stopped in the streets and asked what the best non-toxic shower curtain is, I decided to finally make a video about it.

Don’t be distracted by the masterpiece of design that my bathroom is. Please focus instead on my shower curtain liner, which is made of PEVA. Here’s why I chose it.

If I lived somewhere warm and dry, or had incredible air flow, I wouldn’t have to worry about mold or mildew, and would go with an organic material like cotton, linen, or hemp. And I might even wax it to make it water resistant.

If I had Big Laundry Energy, I’d go with an OEKO TEX certified polyester curtain, which dries super quickly, reducing the chance of mold—  but that’s just not me.

So, I went with PEVA to prevent mold and constant laundry. It’s plastic, but it’s much better than a PVC shower curtain, which not only off-gasses but has to be softened with phthalates to make it flexible. PEVA on the other hand, doesn’t need any additives.

One last point—  there’s a 2014 research paper that makes its way around the internet saying the PEVA is toxic. However, if you actually open the article, you’ll see it was written by a high school student that put PEVA in a 150 degree Fahrenheit steam bath and the worms that were exposed to it, died. Shocking. All of the human studies have shown that PEVA is a pretty boring and safe material.
