Re-arranging furniture for mental health
Psychiatrist Carrie Barron studies how movement and using our hands can improve our mental health. When she noticed a lot of people reported feeling better after re-arranging, she wrote about why.
By moving furniture, we have an impact on our environment, attuning it to our comfort, energy, and needs. This external shift affects us internally, too.
As you move around with focus, your mind is able to let things percolate. And, it’s a visible way of reminding you of your own creativity, a side we don’t often get to tap in to.
So next time you need a little mood boost, move some furniture around. Even if it all ends up back where it was before, it freshens up the energy, and gets you out of your head. Voila!
