PFAS
...said the EPA recently. In the tap water of 200 million Americans, PFAS chemicals are linked to obesity, cancer, low birth weight, and other health effects (see Today's Link in bio). They originally come from waterproofing materials and firefighting foams, but because they last forever and don't break down, end up in our water supply.
IF the law passes at the end of 2023, it would be the first update to the standard in decades. Limits on the amount of 6 different types of PFAS would be set, even though there are 600 kinds currently in use. Public water supplies would be required to inform people when levels rose above the limits, and then would have 3 years to solve the problem.
It's all a step in the right direction. It's not fair that in the meantime, this is up to us, but here is what you can do:
➜ Test your tap water for PFAS
➜ Use a water filter that removes PFAS at home
