My approach to designing around EMF’s

I have a research-oriented mindset because I believe third-party testing, public health considerations, and evidence-based medicine *usually* do the best job protecting the greatest number of people. But! I also think individual and anecdotal experiences are real and valuable, and I acknowledge science is slow, evolving, and imperfect. Plus, I think it’s important to honor the mysterious and inexplicable.

Because EMF research (and EMF protective device testing especially!) is currently very mixed and unsatisfying, I’m not ready to advocate for microwave-free design, or generally recommend interior walls are primed in EMF-blocking paint. However, I think it’s important to genuinely consider that EMF’s may have real and lasting health effects, especially for sensitive individuals, rather than be dismissive.

In the spirit of curiosity, I ordered an EMF curtain liner for my bedroom and an inexpensive gauss meter to measure their effectiveness. Disrupted sleep is one of the common side effects of EMF exposure, so I’m curious to see if I have deeper sleep. Results to come. And let me know if you have experience with this- I’d love to hear!
