How to spot an organic vs. organic-ish mattress

I’ve already rated 29 organic and organic-ish mattresses here. Reach out if there’s a brand you’re curious about and don’t see.

Or, you can rate them on your own using my guides to healthier foam, fabric, and adhesives.

Mattress brands now use “non-toxic” in their advertising even more often than they show cute couples having a pillow fight, or the good ol’ “feet in the air” pose.

And on first glance, they all look pretty non-toxic! The poetic descriptions are quite convincing:

Take theoretical Mattress 1 and Mattress 2 here for instance.

With all this devastatingly gorgeous verse, it’s really hard to tell that one of these mattresses is actually much healthier than the other.

But, this is my spice rack, these are my Biochemistry notes, and this is every photo I’ve ever taken organized into folders by year and month. In other words, I love to take messes and make them visually understandable. I’m a very fun person.

I analyzed 29 non-toxic mattresses and reduced all their flowery language into clear ratings for each material used. This way, you can compare them side by side and it’s easy to see which one is actually better for you.

Spoiler alert— the ones with flower language and higher prices are not always healthier. Check it out here, and lemme know if you have questions!
