How to choose bedding for eczema

Preventing a sweaty sleep, which can irritate eczema, is the main goal!

Using sheets made with natural, breathable fibers is the first step-- so linen, Tencel, silk, or wool, rather than polyester or microfiber. But looking beyond the sheets is important too!

◾Mattress protectors: these are commonly made with polyester, since one of their purposes is to prevent sweat from entering the mattress. BUT, they can also make you sleep very hot. I use a washable wool one instead -- wool sounds hot, but it is actually very good at thermoregulation. It keeps you cool when it's warm and warm when it's cold.

◾Mattress pad: your body sinks in to soft, foam mattress pads easily, reducing the surface area that your skin has in contact with the air. This makes it harder to thermoregulate, so it's worth considering something firmer if you find yourself getting sweaty.

◾Comforters. Finding one both filled with AND encased by natural fibers rather than polyester is helpful. Wool blankets are another good option. I love wool so much.
