A dehumidifier is one of the best ways to keep your home healthy

Every few days, its “Bucket Full” light goes on, and I yell to my husband, “Paul! Come look! It already filled up again!” And every time, he drops whatever he is doing to come look at it, and he says, “oh my gosh, that’s crazy!”

It’s just so satisfying to see all that water from the air collected in one place.

The humidity level in your home always matters for your indoor air quality, and especially so if you have mold allergies. Breathing mold spores into your lungs can trigger an allergic response.

The EPA recommends an indoor humidity level of 30-50% to reduce mold growth, which flourishes at 50-65%. When your home is adequately dry, mold growth essentially stops. Even if you can’t see any visible mold, it’s often present in the walls and around windows. Mold mitigation services might be necessary for extreme conditions, but just stopping growth is a huge step in the right direction and can quickly reduce allergic symptoms.

We chose a small Frigidaire model, but there are lots of good options depending on your square footage and how quiet you like your appliances to be.
